Everything already said about the 1954 300SL Convertible equally applies to the Gullwing save that the it was stiffer and better for racing which its aerodynamic design and equally superb handling and fuel injected engine, meant it would excel at! As with many greats it did however have an Achilles Heel and that was the gulping doors themselves which could trap a driver in the car if it overturned during a race but otherwise probably the greatest Mercedes-Benz of all time.
